Glitter + Sticky Embossing Powder

Hi Everyone!

Today I’m sharing a card I created for my entry into the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge. I love these challenges because they force you out of your comfort zone!

The challenge was to use a stencil. Here’s the card that I created:

Here’s how I made it:

I turned my stencil face down on my work surface. I used Echo Park’s ‘Summer Fun‘ stencil. I temporarily adhered my cardstock to the stencil with painters tape, then flipped it back over. This ensures that you can stencil edge to edge while keeping your stencil and paper from slipping.

I dabbed my Versamark ink pad over the entire stencil, making sure to press hard enough to apply it to the paper, not just on the stencil.

Without removing the stencil, I poured my Ranger Sticky Embossing Powder over the entire card front. (This embossing powder is awesome stuff! Once it’s activated by the heat gun it remains sticky. You can then apply powders, glitters, etc and it will stick only to the embossed areas).

After applying the sticky embossing powder I removed the stencil and heat embossed the powder. I spread a mixture of purple and blue glitter over the warm embossed area and it all stuck beautifully.

As you can see in the photo, the glitter has also gotten on the white area. To remove that, wait until your card front is completely dry then gently rub that excess glitter away with a baby wipe.

To make this into a shaker card, I ran my newly glittered card front through my die cutting machine with a circle die cut about 1/3 down from the top.

After I ran it through the die cut machine, I noticed that some of the sticky embossing powder had gotten stuck to the plastic plates. At first I didn’t like it, but I fixed up the section on the bottom left corner a bit, and ended up liking the distressed look it gave.

I stamped and die cut these adorable shark & fish friends from the Clearly Besotted ‘Best Friends‘ stamp set. I coloured them in with Prismacolor colored pencils.

I used basic shaker card technique for creating the shaker, I didn’t want to put too much colour in there and take away from the stenciling.

I stamped the sentiment on black cardstock and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. I dropped on a few Nuvo drops in Carnation Pink and left it at that!

Thank you so much for looking!
