Zombie Unicorn Card

Halloween is coming! Only about 6 weeks until one of the most fun holidays of the year! I’ve got young-ish kids (4, 7, 9), so Halloween is always a big deal around here.

I love to turn items that may not be meant for Halloween into spooky or ‘cute-spooky’, as we call it, creations.

For this project I used Avery Elle’s ‘Be a Unicorn’ stamp and die set. This little unicorn is so cute and precious, I couldn’t wait to zombify it! Take a look:

When I sat down with the idea, I didn’t have an end design in mind, but I love how it turned out!

Here’s how it came together:

I stamped and die cut the unicorn and rainbow. I coloured the unicorn in to look like a zombie, complete with stitches! I chose darker tones for the rainbow, because I didn’t think a bright and cheerful rainbow would really work here.

I used Wink of Stella glitter brushes to add some sparkle. Even a zombie needs glitter!

Next I went to work on the background. Using stitched cloud dies, I created 3 layers of clouds. I used Tim Holtz ‘Hickory Smoke’ distress ink to create ominous grey clouds. I mounted it on an A2 sized piece of dark purple cardstock.

I used Alphabet stamps by ms. sparkle & co. from Joann’s to create the word Zombody. I embossed it using Versamark ink and green embossing powder by Martha Stewart. I love the way that turned out!

The ‘its’ and ‘special day’ are from Lawn Fawn’s ‘Out of This World’ stamp set. I stamped those in black ink, not embossed.

Finally, I adhered the rainbow and unicorn down to the card. I used small blue rhinestones for raindrops, and pink/white bakers twine for the border. I had to hold my self back and call the card finished because I just kept wanting to add more!

Thanks for looking and be sure to share with other zombie (or unicorn!) lovers on Facebook and Pinterest!
